In the past years of Kalanguya Project, the missionaries conducted different programs to reach out to the people. There were four who got baptized during the evangelistic crusade last April 18-May 2009. Most of those who were baptized before 2009 transferred to other places. Those that were left were no longer attending the church services. The missionaries continued to make friends with the Kalanguyas. Juliet Ruallo, one of the missionary concentrated in teaching the children while studying the Kalanguya language. She taught Values education to grade 4-6 students from June-October 2010. Juliet and Mylene conducted VBS for 30 kids last May 17-28, 2010. Mylene Causing, who was in the village for 7 years already, is fluent in the language and culture of the people. She was able to give Bible studies to some of the professionals employed in the municipality and also to the farmers in the places she visited. But when these people were invited to attend the activities in the house church of the missionaries they do not come. Few years ago, the missionaries found out that the possible reason was that the house where they were holding the church services was just across the Catholic Church. Even if the people wanted to join them in church services they were afraid that some of their fellow Catholics would treat them differently. “Our culture of friendship is very strong,” said Sis. Betty, head of DSWD, one of the converts. She is not active in the church activities though she claimed to be an SDA. Social pressure is very strong.
For this reason, the Training Department of PFM sent a team (with 6 members) of missionaries instead of 2 persons only. The purpose of this team was to develop friendship with the Kalanguyas until they are converted to Jesus. Because they are a group, the people would feel the warm fellowship compared before when there were only 2 missionaries. In addition, the place they had chosen to conduct the evangelistic activities is far from the Catholic Church. If they could create a small group in that place a new Kalanguya project will soon begin.
